Walk with me

Peter awoke early to find the ground covered in a blanket of fresh fallen snow.  The sun was up and it glistened like jewels on the ground below.  This made him smile for he had planned this day for months and it couldn't have been more beautiful.

Jennifer was still asleep.  She had been up late working on the last chapter of her new book and she went to bed exhausted.  She planned to sleep in and then walk to the coffee shop two blocks away from her townhouse to have a cup of coffee before meeting up with Peter to help him shop for a new suit.

It was now 10:00 a.m. and Allie was ready to go outside.  Allie loved the snow and looked so cute with the little pile of it resting on her nose after playing outside in it.  Allie ever so gently nudged Jennifer's elbow.  Allie was a very gentle dog, but persistent.  She was ready to start her day even if Jennifer wasn't.

Jennifer didn't stir.

Allie nudged again.

This time Jennifer moaned and rolled over on her back in bed.  She rubbed her eyes and looked over to see Allie's friendly face staring at her.

Jennifer stretched, reached over and patted Allie's head, threw the stack of blankets off her body and sat up on the side of the bed.

Jennifer's cell phone rang.

It was Peter calling which caused Jennifer's heart to race just a bit.

Jennifer and Peter exchanged a few words.  Jennifer walked quickly to the back door with Allie following closely behind.

Allie wedged her nose into the opening forcing the door open.  Allie ran happily through the door and jumped into the snow.  Jennifer giggled, told Peter goodbye, and made herself a cup of coffee.  While the coffee was brewing she grabbed the mason jar glass from the counter and filled it with water.  Then she watered her Maiden Hair fern on her kitchen window sill refilled the jar and then watered her palm tree in the living room.

Coffee done, Jennifer glanced out the kitchen window to see what Allie was doing.  She was still romping around in the snow...happy as a lark.  As much as Jennifer wanted to leave Allie outside to play for just a bit longer, she knew she needed to get moving.  Jennifer opened the back door and called out to Allie.  Without any hesitation, Allie came running full speed tracking all shorts of tiny piles of snow onto the living room tile floor.  Jennifer reached over with the towel she had in her hands, but before she could get Allie's fur wiped off, Allie shook spreading water droplets everywhere.

Jennifer finished her coffee and jumped into the shower.  She started picturing all the stuff in her closet and wondered what to wear.  She mentally planned her outfit, rinsed the conditioner from her hair, and then stepped out of the shower onto the pale blue bath mat on her bathroom floor.

As soon as she had dried off, she piled her hair up in a towel and headed straight for her closet.  She picked up her black boots that were laying on the floor.  These would certainly be a must on a day like this. She placed her black turtleneck sweater and black wool pants on the side of her bed.

Jennifer turned on the television to catch up on the weather, got dressed and headed out to the coffee shop down the street.

Sitting down with a cup of coffee, Jennifer got caught up on her email before heading back home.

Peter didn't answer his phone when Jennifer called on her way back home.  She left him a message.  They planned to meet up at Harry's for brunch and she wanted to remind him to bring his new shoes when he tried on suits today.

Jennifer put on her pearl necklace and earrings, a brightly colored scarf, and grabbed her large, red tote bag.

Peter arrived at Harry's before Jennifer and was waiting in the lobby.

When Jennifer arrived, Peter stood and walked over to the door toward her.  He gave Jennifer a light kiss on the cheek.  He told her how beautiful she looked and asked if she would take a walk outside with him before they were seated.

Jennifer started to get a little bit nervous because Peter seemed so serious, but she didn't ask any questions.  They simply walked together outside for a couple of minutes in silence.

Then Peter stopped and placed his hands on Jennifer's shoulders turning her body so that they were now facing one another.  Looking straight into his eyes, Jennifer noticed a tear starting to roll down Peter's cheek.  She froze now terrified something bad was about to happen.

Peter wiped his cheek with his brown, leather glove and still said nothing.

Finally Jennifer managed to produce a tiny smile.  Looking up into Peter's face she said, "whatever it is, we can handle it together."

Peter smiled back and then gave Jennifer a big hug.

Then Peter took a step back away from Jennifer and asked, "did Allie enjoy the snow this morning?"

Jennifer shook her head side to side and glared at Peter in total disbelief.

"What...why do you want to know about Allie at a time like this?"

"Because I like Allie and I know how much she enjoys playing out in the snow", Peter said.

"Now here I was thinking something was wrong and you ask me about Allie?  Peter what's wrong with you?", Jennifer asked.

Peter now grinning said, "well if you didn't like that question, then how about this one.  Jennifer, will you marry me so that we can always walk in the freshly fallen snow together?"
