Such a lovely blog you have here. I am happy to meet you. Sounds like blackeyed peas are a bit of a holiday tradition for some. I am not familiar with that tradition. Here in the Pennsylvania Dutch country we serve pork and sauerkraut for Good Luck in the new year.
